すぐ役に立つものよりも...

先日ある大学の入試担当者（理系学部）から伺った話です。専門学校に行くよりも大学に行くことを進めたいというお話でした。

『専門学校での２年間で学ぶのは、そのときの最先端の技術。あくまで「そのときのもの」で、しかも技術のみに終始してしまい、少し時がたてば使えなくなります。一方、大学で学ぶのは、最先端の技術を作り続けられる理論や考え方。すぐには役に立たなくても、何年先でも使える力です。もちろん、最先端を吸収し続ける人であれば、専門学校を出た後でも問題ないと思います。逆に大学を出ても学びを止めてしまった人は最先端からは置き去りにされてしまいます。』

いずれにしても、変化の激しい時代、人生１００年時代においては、学び続ける力は必須であることに違いはないのですが、気を付けたいのは「すぐに役に立つもの」に飛びついてしまうこと。さすがは最先端に触れ続けている大学の先生だなと、勉強させられました。
