The Number of Job Openings and Job Seekers Decreased Significantly
According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare's "Job Openings, Job Applications, and Offers of Employment for High School and Junior High School Graduates at Hello Work in Fiscal Year 2020" (as of the end of October 2020), the job offer rate for high school graduates was 64.2%, up 0.2 percentage points from the same period last year. On the other hand, the number of job offers decreased by 9.9%, the number of job openings decreased by 20.7%, the number of job seekers decreased by 10%, and the job offer ratio decreased by 0.32 points to 2.43 times.
Since graduating in March 2012, the number of job openings had been growing for almost a decade, making it a "seller's market," but the Corona disaster caused it to plummet.
The top job offer rate by prefecture was 83.3% in Fukui Prefecture, followed by 79.6% in Yamaguchi Prefecture and 76.0% in Toyama Prefecture. The lowest rate was 26.7% in Okinawa Prefecture. The job offer rate in metropolitan areas is also remarkably low, with 47.6% in Tokyo and 47.1% in Kanagawa Prefecture (67.3% in Fukushima Prefecture).
