SDGsとは、持続可能な開発目標（Sustainable development Goals）の略で、2015年に国連で採択されて依頼、世界中の人々がこの目標を共有して2030年に向かって歩んでいます。

◎開発途上国の初等教育就学率は91％に達したが、まだ5700万人の子どもが学校に通えておらず、その半数はサハラ以南アフリカで暮らしている。
◎全世界で６億1700万人の若者が、基本的な算術と読み書きの能力を欠いている。
◎７億5000万人の成人が読み書きができない。そのうち３分の２は女性。
◎６歳から17歳の子どもの５人に１人は学校に通えない。

学びたくても学べない子どもたちが世界にはたくさんいるのですね。日本の教育システムは他の先進諸国からするとやや遅れているとも言われますが、それでもほぼすべての子どもが学校に通える環境が整っているのは、世界的にみても珍しいのです。すべての人が学べるようにするには、高い貧困率や紛争の長期化などが背景にあるため、単に学校を作ればよいという問題でもありません。また、日本でも起こっていることですが、都市部と農村部の間にも依然として格差が存在しています。教育一つとっても、経済の問題、国際社会の問題などが絡み合っているのですね。

SDG.4 Quality education for all.

The SDGs stand for Sustainable Development Goals, adopted and commissioned by the United Nations in 2015, and people all over the world share these goals as we move toward 2030.

◎Primary school enrollment in developing countries has reached 91%, yet 57 million children are still out of school, half of whom live in sub-Saharan Africa.
◎617 million young people worldwide lack basic arithmetic and literacy skills.
◎750 million adults cannot read or write, and two-thirds of them are women. Two-thirds of them are women.
◎One in five children between the ages of 6 and 17 is unable to attend school.

So there are many children in the world who want to learn but are unable to do so. Japan's education system is said to lag slightly behind that of other developed countries, but even so, the fact that we have an environment where almost all children can go to school is rare in the world. It's not just a matter of building schools for all, either, because of high poverty rates and prolonged conflict. Also, as is happening in Japan, there is still a disparity between urban and rural areas. Even just one aspect of education is intertwined with economic issues and the international community.
